Ideology - Interview Analisys

What a musician says in an interview often presents their image as either a band or a solo artist. In this interview I have examined some phrases through-out the interview that help create the musician's image. This is an interview for Three Days Grace's Adam Gontier...

Adam's answer to the 3rd question shows Three Days Grace show themselves a band who want to live life to the fullest – as in the name.

The Comment "We don't try and compare ourselves to other bands" show the band are not trying to link themselves with other bands.

The comment, "It's about realizing there's there is something in your life you're wasting time on." shows they are Trying to make us realise, there might be something in their life that’s a waste time.

When being asked about the song "Just Like You", his reply Shows they have their own ideas and values, and don’t listen to others. Not being pushed around.

The comment "I grew up with alot of people who were into music" is ansswer to the influence into Adam’s decision to be involved with music

College Magazine Front Cover and Contents Pages - UPLOADED

Right, here they are. First with the Front Cover. I decided to have a Noir-type effect on these pages, because I've seen the Noir Effect being used before, and it looked brilliant. I thought if I put my College Magzine Front Cover in the same style, it would look good.

Questionnaire Analysis

The questionnaire I conducted gave me an insight into the possible audience of my magazine. The questionnaire helped me find a niche market, based on gender, taste, hobbies and musical preferences.
I asked 5 people 20 questions, with 3 people being female, and 2 being male. I decided to ask more females than males because I assumed that more females read music magazines than males, and it would be more ideal for my magazine.
I asked the 5 people what their religious beliefs were, because whatever religion one might follow would probably influence their taste in music, and could tell me what social group they are in. 60% of the people I asked were atheists, with 40% being Christian, which tells me that more people were non-believers than believers.
I asked what/who had the biggest influence on a person’s life. I asked this because; someone’s influence could influence them to favour a certain genre over another. The majority of people I asked said their biggest influence is family and friends, which is crucial, because, someone might have to adapt to a certain genre to fit in with their friends.
I also asked questions on what someone had planned to do as a future career, with Acting being the most popular choice. I asked what people do in their spare time, which came out with a variety of results, which included listening to music, seeing friends, acting, and just general relaxing.
Also, everyone I asked uses social networking such as Facebook and MySpace, which would have a role in influencing someone’s social group and musical taste.
One of the most important questions I asked was what the favourite genres were. I decided to allow the people to pick more than one genre, because the more results I got, the better my research with me. The most popular choice was Indie which is mostly covered in NME Magazine. Rock and Pop were also popular choices.
I also asked for the people’s favourite bands, which gave me 5 different answers, (Kings Of Leon, Michael Buble, The Who, A Day To Remember and Fallout Boy), however it appears my audience would mostly consists of Indie and rock fans.
I also asked wether TV has any influence on someone, with all 5 people saying it does, which shows how the Media has used the Hypodermic theory, to try and inject an idea in the audiences mind

Anaylsing Genres - Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Drowning Pool

Red Hot Chilli Peppers are a band mixed with multiple genres - Rap Rock, Alternative Rock and Funk Rock, which are sub-genres concerning with the core genre of Rock.

Rock bands, according to the BBC, are deemed to have low-self-esteem, being creative and not hardworking.

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are often seen just in a shirt and jeans when performing a video, which is a sort of casual fashion.

The album covers of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers so how unorthodox the band's music are.
This Cover shows how that band refrences to their own name by having 3 of the band members having peppers in their mouths.

This Stadium Arcadium Album Cover show the band taking a rather gaming/retro theme towards the album.

¨Drowning Pool have a strongly different stereotype as a punk rock band. The band members often show of tattoos by wearing short-sleeved or no sleeved tops, which suggests they are show themselves of as hard men.

This cd ablum is an example of this, with all band members wearing sleeveless tops.

Photography - Different Types of Shots

Here are 7 different types of camera shots taken recently

This photo is a low angle close up shot which shows the superiority of the subject in question.

This is a high angle mid shot, in which a person takes a photo of something from a higher ground than the subject. The photographer in this photo took a photo while being stood on something to somehow make the subject look less signficant.

This photo is a shot which uses macro lenses, which smudges the background and just focuses on one particular object (in this case - a hand). Like the low-angle close up shot, it makes a subject stand out.

This show the rules of third which groups things in three. In this photo, we show 3 people standing in front of three sections of glass, which shows the rules of three.

These 4 photos show a variety of different shots which all have different meanings.

Music Magazine Intro

Right, this is the first blog of my music magazine coursework project. What I'll be doing is building up all the things I get from my Media Lessons, and putting it in this blog. Smiple?

As far as music is considered, I have a variety of music bands I enjoy listen to, all of them based around the ROCK genre. I like Alternative Rock Music from the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nickelback, Heavy Metal, from the likes of Motorhead and Metallica, and Rap Rock from the likes of Linkin Park.

The Magazines I would probably study are NME or Kerrang, because they both represent the rock genre in very unorthodox ways. While NME focuses mainly on Indie, Kerrang focuses on Metal Rock and other types of rock.

     NME                                                                   Kerrang

Below is the links to both the magazines websites and other music magazine sites which cover more rock and more genres.

Kerrang
NME
Q
Rolling Stone
Powerplay Magazine
Vibe
RagoMagazine
Mojo
Empire Magazine

I think I've done this blog quite well.
